Work Injuries

A work injury can occur in any work environment.  Work injuries affect people of all ages.

Studies show that each year more than 600,000 Canadians experience an injury on the job.  This include blue-collar workers, office workers and almost any profession.  Many of these people seek chiropractic care for quick relief from their injuries.

If you think you have been injured at work, please know that the most important part of a successful recovery is early intervention.  By being checked quickly and starting care immediately, you can cut down your healing time and recover as quickly as possible.

A few changes to the setup of your work station can significantly reduce the number of back pains and aching muscles. Four out of five people attribute the cause of their neck and back pain to hunching and improper posture over a computer for hours either at work or home. Posture is key. Here are some tips to reduce pain from long working hours.

By aligning your head and neck above your shoulders you avoid exerting pressure on the muscles. Move the mouse or keyboard closer to you. This will give you more control over your movements and limits twisting your shoulders, arms and wrists. Posture also goes hand in hand with the equipment you use in your office. Invest in a chair that will allow you to rest your lower back comfortably for lumbar support. Sitting cross-legged makes it very difficult to keep your spine straight, so plant your feet on the floor with shoulder width apart and your knees at a 90 degree angle, this should reduce tension in your knees and ankles.

It is important to not sit for long hours with little to no movement, so get up and stretch! This will lessen pressure on spinal disks and boost circulation. When it comes to multitasking, many people prefer to pin the phone between their ear and shoulder to allow for free movement of their hands. This is exceptionally damaging to the muscles and nerves in your neck. It is recommended to use a headset or speakerphone for lengthy conversations.
